Contract completion rates for apprentices and trainees who commenced training in 2013 have decreased to 52.7% (down from 55.4% for those commencing in 2012) according to new data released today by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).
Completion and attrition rates for apprentices and trainees 2017 tracks the outcomes of apprentices and trainees from when they commenced their training.
The contract completion rates for those who commenced training in trade occupations in 2013 decreased to 47.1% (down from 48.5% for those commencing in 2012) and to 57.1% for non-trade occupations (down from 58.8%).
Across occupations, contract completion rates for those who commenced in 2013 ranged from 72.7% for hospitality, retail and service managers to 34.8% for food trade workers.
“During an apprenticeship or traineeship there may be many reasons for changes in contracts, such as a change of employer, with breaks in training,” said Dr Mette Creaser, National Manager Statistics and Analytics, NCVER.
“This is why we also provide data on individual completion rates, with latest data showing 59.6% of individuals who commenced in 2013 completed their apprenticeship or traineeship."
