About the survey
Who funds, conducts and manages the National VET Workforce Survey?
The National VET Workforce Survey is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. The Department contracts NCVER to manage the survey and to analyse and publish the survey results. NCVER engages Ipsos to conduct the online survey and to assist with the reporting of findings.
Why is the survey conducted?
The purpose of the survey is to provide a picture of how many people are working in the VET sector, to help with future planning, and to better support the VET workforce.
Participating in the survey is voluntary and your contribution to informing future VET workforce planning is greatly valued.
What information is collected?
Your contact details were sourced from The National Register of VET (training.gov.au) and provided to Ipsos. Your contact details are used to invite you to participate in the survey. Ipsos destroys your contact details at the conclusion of the survey.
Other information collected includes:
- the number of staff employed by an RTO
- employee roles, employment status, and qualifications held
- training delivery methods and locations.
Responses to the survey will be linked with the following data from training.gov.au and the National VET Provider Collection:
- RTO type
- training scope
- funding type
- length of registration
- ABS remoteness regions.
This allows the questionnaire to be shortened as we do not need to ask for this information during the questionnaire.
Where your information is held
Ipsos stores your contact information on secure servers located within Australia. Email reminders may be routed via a sever located outside of Australia. After your de-identified information is provided by Ipsos to NCVER, the data are also stored by NCVER within Australia with appropriate levels of security.
Use and disclosure of the collected information
The main purposes for which data from the survey are disclosed and used are to:
- facilitate statistics and research relating to vocational education and training
- understand how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information
- administer VET.
The data are disclosed for the above purposes to the following recipients and in the following manner:
- NCVER publishes the data at the aggregate level and, on written request, may disclose aggregate or de-identified unit record data to Commonwealth, state/territory government education and training departments, and VET regulators.
- Commonwealth and state/territory government education and training departments, and VET regulators, may publish the data at the aggregate level.
